Welcome to the Empire of the Seven Continents

The Empire of the Seven Continents is the home of the Imperial Saga, a fantasy series by Anne Winchell. This website offers exclusive content of the world and novels and behind-the-scenes glimpses into the writing process. Take a look around and explore the world of the Empire of the Seven Continents and the books and stories from this world!

Enter the Imperial Saga

The war for Tamarud lasted twelve years and devastated the continent’s people and lands. When the royal family was captured, everyone knew it was it was only a matter of time before their defeat, but the Empire shocked the people by executing all but the youngest two royals.

Fifteen years later, the continent of Tamarud has suffered under Imperial rule. After the massacre following the execution of the royals, the population is devastated, their numbers vastly diminished. Everyone in a fifteen year age group was murdered, leaving only older adults and those under twenty-five behind.

Now, the invaders, as those from the Empire are known, can kill at will, and wreak havoc on the people of Tamarud. Tamarudian culture has all but vanished as their books, art, and traditional buildings have been razed. Speaking their language is a death sentence, and they even have to choose Imperial names to avoid being killed.

In this chaos and destruction, Princess Tahirah is coming into her magical powers. As one of two surviving royals, she wields enormous power, power that makes her both threatening and desirable to the Empire. Her rise to power is marked with death and isolation, but romance and hope keep her going.

These five novels chart her progress as she gains her adult powers, and the increasing strength of her allies as well. Ari, a young man and the object of her affections, learns to stand on his own, and Jana, a young woman whose love for her girlfriend Leena is the only bright spot in her life, learns to take on a leadership role. Together, Ari, Jana, and Leena hope to help save Tahirah from the Empire. They’ll go to any lengths, but will it be enough?

Rise of the Phoenix is a fantasy novel about a young woman who survived the execution of her family at the end of the war and now lives in an occupied continent. She’s always pretended to be obedient, but she has a secret: she’s created a phoenix egg.

The people of Tamarud remember the brutality of the dragon knights long after the war ended. When Jana accidentally becomes a dragon knight, she must deal with the hatred of her father and her people even while fighting to defend her home.

Ari has always relied on loved ones for guidance, but now Tahirah is trapped on a different continent and his parents might be dead. With new friends and unfamiliar family, he has to forge a way forward even as the Empire’s power draws closer to finding him.

Full lyrics:

(Verse 1)
They took my name in the smoke and steel
Left only scars that refused to heal
A borrowed face in a gilded cage
Counting my life in another’s rage

I learned the shape of a sharpened grin
The cost of mercy, the weight of skin
Every touch a chain, every breath a brand
A life rewritten by another hand

(Pre-Chorus)
I was not born for this ruin
But ruin learned my name
And somewhere in the breaking
I became the flame

(Chorus)
I was forged in the fire
Hammered down to wire and bone
Not a prince, not a prisoner
Not a thing they could own
If I stand between two worlds
It’s because both left their scars
You bloomed where the border burned
I was made beneath the stars

(Verse 2)
I carry ghosts beneath my skin
Ink and venom, loss within
Every mark a name, a wound, a vow
Who I was and who I am now

I loved a hand that held me fast
Even when it bound the past
I hated chains, I hated walls
But still I answered when duty called

(Pre-Chorus)
There’s a tenderness in ashes
A mercy in the night
Sometimes what keeps you living
Still teaches you to fight

(Chorus)
I was forged in the fire
Hammered down to wire and bone
Not a prince, not a prisoner
Not a thing they could own
If I stand between two worlds
It’s because both left their scars
You bloomed where the border burned
I was made beneath the stars

(Bridge)
You chose the flame
I was thrown inside
But somehow still
I came out alive

And if your hands are petals
Mine are smoke and steel
Still when you touch my darkness
It almost starts to heal

(Final Chorus)
I was forged in the fire
But I am more than what remains
Not the boy they buried
Not the body marked by chains
If we meet where borders break
Where the old world falls apart
You bloom through all the ashes
And I guard the fragile heart

(Outro)
Born in stars
Made in flame
Still somehow
I kept my name

Full lyrics:

(Verse 1)
Midnight hum in the hollow halls
Fluorescent ghosts on the concrete walls
Everyone’s looking for someone to save
I’m counting names and digging graves

Maps spread wide like broken veins
Cities burning under rain
They call it mercy, call it war
I call it one more closing door

(Pre-Chorus)
Keep your voice low
Keep your heart colder
If I let it break
This whole world’s over

(Chorus)
I hold the cracks together
While the skyline shakes
Carry every fracture
Every choice we make
They can call me ruthless
They can call me stone
I’m the hand in the darkness
Keeping us from going under alone

(Verse 2)
Emma’s fire, Garrett’s ghosts
Aaron breathing on the edge of hope
Everyone’s carrying someone’s pain
I’m the one who bears the weight of names

Mercy wears a sharpened face
Sometimes love means giving space
Sometimes survival looks like chains
Sometimes kindness tastes like rain

(Pre-Chorus)
No one sees
What it costs me
Every life saved
Leaves a scar beneath me

(Chorus)
I hold the cracks together
While the skyline shakes
Carry every fracture
Every choice we make
They can call me ruthless
They can call me stone
I’m the hand in the darkness
Keeping us from going under alone

(Bridge)
If I bend, we break
If I break, we fall
So I stand in the silence
And answer every call
Let them hate the choices
Let them curse my name
I’ll still be here tomorrow
Holding back the flame

(Final Chorus)
I hold the cracks together
While the whole world aches
Built from all the pieces
No one else can take
Call me what you need to
Villain, guide, unknown
I’m the light in the blackout
Making sure they all get home
